Building a Movement for Ethical Governance
We have built a movement a movement rooted in ethical governance, community empowerment, and the unwavering belief that change begins with us," said Mr. Tamfu Simon Fai, the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) for the North West Region. He made this statement during his opening speech at the closing of a three-day capacity-strengthening workshop for 110 community-based volunteers. The workshop aimed to support the campaign promoting good governance in regional and local authorities and concluded on August 22, 2025.
The community-based assistants are now equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to provide valuable insights to the PIC regarding the operations of local and regional councils in the Northwest.
In his speech, Mr. Fai emphasized, "You have been equipped with the tools necessary to accompany the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator in a bold and inclusive campaign to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in regional and local authorities."
The training was part of the PIC's ongoing initiative to address the excesses of local authorities. "I remind you to be neutral, impartial, independent, confidential, and objective in your work within your communities. Your efforts are crucial for the general interest and welfare, particularly in fostering sustainable peace and good governance through decentralization."
