CDENO: Fourth Edition of Livestock Input Distribution

On September 5, 2025, the North West Livestock Development Fund (CDENO) celebrated a significant milestone with the fourth edition of its mass distribution of livestock inputs to farmers in the North West Region. This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between CDENO and local livestock farmers, enhancing production in the poultry, piggery, and dairy sectors. Today’s distribution includes a substantial supply of day-old chicks, piglets, animal feed, and essential agricultural materials.

Distribution Highlights

 CDENO provided

- *25,500 day-old chicks*
- *100 piglets*
- *25 tons of animal feed*
- *100 bags of cotton*
- *3,000 kg of Brachiaria seeds*

- *200 bags of white cement*
- *100 bags of salt*
- *500 one-month-old brooded chicks with feed for persons with special needs*

This initiative is part of the Government of Cameroon’s commitment to supporting livestock farmers through CDENO.

Insights from CDENO Director

Mbah Shupong Michael, Director of CDENO, emphasized the inclusive nature of this distribution:

> "We are happy to inform you that this edition is special because of its inclusive approach. Some livestock farmers and groups with special needs have been identified to benefit from this support, demonstrating that disability is not inability. We thank them for breaking barriers to engage in livestock activities, which will provide them with income and boost livestock production in the North West Region."

He also mentioned the timing of the distribution:

> "The exercise was moved from December to September, aligning with the peak brooding period to allow farmers to market their products during the year-end festivities."

Background of the Initiative

Mbah Shupong Michael further elaborated on the ongoing support from the Government of Cameroon:

> "This is part of a long-standing commitment that dates back to November 8, 1974, when CDENO was created. We thank the Government, through the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries, and Animal Industries, for empowering us to meet the demands of livestock farmers in line with the state's import substitution policy."

Voices from the Community

Sunday Ghali Bekwa, president of a special needs entrepreneur group, expressed gratitude for the support:

> "I'm very grateful for the donations from the Government of Cameroon through CDENO. This initiative will empower us financially, allowing us to provide protein for our families. We hope this continues so that more persons with disabilities can benefit."

 Governor's Remarks

Governor Adolf Lele of the North West Region highlighted the importance of direct access to CDENO's subsidized products:

> "The Director of CDENO reminded farmers that all products are subsidized by the Government. It’s crucial to approach the office directly to place official requests to benefit from these subsidies, rather than relying on intermediaries."

 Ongoing Support

In recent months, CDENO has assisted approximately 3,000 livestock and fisheries farmers through the Emergency Project to Combat Food Crisis in Cameroon (PULCCA). This assistance will continue as part of CDENO's routine efforts to provide direct support to livestock farmers in the region.

For more information, farmers are encouraged to visit CDENO’s office to place their requests officially.
