Jean Nkuete: Biya’s Victory Will Open a 'Beautiful Chapter' for North West

Jean Nkuete, Secretary-General of Cameroon’s ruling party, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), has urged voters in the North West Region to rally behind President Paul Biya in the country’s upcoming presidential election, describing him as “the key to the happiness of Cameroonians.”

Addressing thousands of supporters at Bamenda’s Commercial Avenue Grandstand, Nkuete called on the population to turn out massively on 12 October to renew Biya’s mandate.

“Paul Biya is well-equipped and possesses the experience necessary to lead our nation,” Nkuete said. “Next Sunday, Cameroon will write another page in its history, a beautiful chapter marked by his resounding success.”
The rally, part of a national campaign tour ahead of the vote, drew senior officials including former Prime Minister Philemon Yang, who heads the CPDM’s regional campaign team.

Yang outlined the progress of political mobilisation across the North West, detailing that campaign launches had taken place in all seven divisions with the final phases scheduled before polling day.

He praised party members for maintaining enthusiasm despite what he called “complex field conditions,” noting that campaign materials had reached all local sections. “Our collaboration has been productive,” Yang said. “Every effort is being made to ensure that campaign gadgets and messages reach the grassroots.”

Biya Supporter Donates

The event also saw a public gesture of support from businessman Jules François Famawa, who donated a 60-seat bus to the University of Bamenda. Famawa described Biya as “a visionary leader who has guided Cameroon’s business community through turbulent times.”

In turn, Nkuete applauded the contribution, saying it reflected the “spirit of partnership and patriotism” that underpins the CPDM’s campaign.

Additional, Honorable Robert Bapooh Lipot, Secretary General of the Union of the People of Cameroon (UPC), was present to show solidarity with the CPDM in the upcoming elections.

Region’s Political Mood

Felix Mbayu, Minister Delegate and President of the CPDM’s Mezam Divisional Campaign Committee, used the platform to highlight the resilience of the North West electorate, saying Bamenda remained a “political heartbeat” despite years of instability. “Bamenda people are astute,” Mbayu said. “They have historically demonstrated their commitment to a united Cameroon, despite the political challenges around them.”
The Bamenda rally marked one of the largest campaign events in the region so far. It comes amid preparations by the Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) for what is expected to be a tightly managed poll.

Nkuete closed the event with an appeal for calm, unity, and vigilance against misinformation. “Do not be swayed by false narratives,” he told supporters. “Let us stand together for peace, progress, and President Paul Biya’s vision of hope.”

As Cameroon edges toward election day, the CPDM’s leadership appears determined to project confidence and to ensure that the North West, a region often seen as politically divided, delivers a strong showing for the ruling party.
